Pausing

My coach has asked me to take more time to pause and think. Especially in the morning.

Pause.

As I first considered this, I thought he was off his rocker. It seemed impossible for me to take any time to think and meditate. I wondered if he understood my predicament – how busy I was, and how many things I had going on. I wanted to tell him that to pause and think would be a gigantic distraction for me.

So Put Me on a Highway…

Very few things are as empowering as going the distance with something important.

We all have heard that there is, indeed, a season for everything. There is a time to embrace life’s little imperfections, a time to accept the things we cannot change or understand, and a time to be patient with ourselves and others.

There is also a time to kick it in to gear and get to the finish line. A time to fight through every obstacle out there until you hit your destination.

The Power to Resist

Leading a disciplined life both personally and professionally is something that virtually everyone wants for themselves. But if we were to unveil the truth, none of us really wants to be disciplined. We only want the byproduct.

I like the definition of discipline that goes like this: To do what you should do when you should do it, whether you feel like doing it or not.

Behind the Line

I believe that one reason that we enjoy movies, music, and art is for the metaphor. We need metaphors to give context to our increasingly complex, compressed world.

One such metaphor is the idea that life can feel like we are on the “front line.”  This is a military term and is used to denote the point at which you engage the enemy. The front line is the most dangerous place to be in a battle.
