Deer

Lighten Your Load

January 27th, 2012

I love Far Side cartoons. Creator Gary Larson retired years ago, but I am forever thankful for his work. We all need to laugh more in life, and I have enjoyed many a laugh at the twisted irony of that cartoon. What on earth was going on inside that guy’s head?

I laugh inwardly even thinking of the two deer standing up on their hind legs, one with a bull’s-eye on his chest as the other exclaims, “Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.”

This week I had two clients tell me that they receive more than 300 e-mails every day. I didn’t bother canvassing the rest of my clients and about their quantity because I didn’t have to. It is over the top.

Chalkboard - Keep Promises

Over and Over

January 24th, 2012

How much thought, energy, and effort has gone into helping others find some mystical key to success? If you were to scour the internet looking for resources on how to become successful in your work or in your life, you would undoubtedly find thousands of ideas, strategies, tactics and suggestions.

I must say that I am often skeptical of such advice, partly because “success” never seems to be defined the same way by any two individuals. For many people, success is some number, some amount of money. For others it is some level of achievement or stature or title. For still others it is a feeling of peace, or a belief that you are helping people.

However you define it, one key element has got to be consistency.

Anchor Underwater

Drop Anchor

January 20th, 2012

This has been a very difficult week for so many of my clients. There are personal trials, serious health-related issues and some vocational whirlwinds that have made the beginning of this year very trying for some.

Runner at the Start

Back to the Start

January 17th, 2012

Success carries with it an insidious problem. One of the core tenets at Building Champions is that we coach people to enjoy success in business and in life. Yet success itself, once achieved, often has to be released, and we find ourselves in a position of starting over.

Some people have the type of vocation that calls upon them to start over every month. Others have to go back to the beginning annually. Still others will have a circumstance in life (because life seems to be full of circumstances) that forces them to begin things yet again.

Hands Open Praying

Open Hands

January 13th, 2012

Attaining wealth is a precarious deal. Pursuing wealth is even more precarious, and avoiding poverty is the other side of the same coin.

I have written before about how many books have the word “millionaire” in the title. It is laughable. There are many things that define the culture in which we live, but one is certainly our endless pursuit of wealth and our avoidance of anything that causes us to have less money and resources than we’d like.

Tired of Excercise

Comfort and Discipline

January 10th, 2012

The discipline of exercise. The discipline of proactive business. The discipline of relationships. The discipline of pulling ourselves out of bed daily.

So many of my clients and friends start each January with the idea that the year ahead will be great if only they can remain disciplined in what they know they should be doing.
